Toronto R&B duo $VN keep the momentum in their favour with the release of their second 2020 single, “Not True.” The Toronto product first started sharing music back in 2018, and have since received high praise for their content from numerous prestigious outlets, including SoundCloud’s New and Hot Canadian R&B. Their music has caught the ear of listeners around the world, racking up 100k listeners though independent releases and curated playlists.
$VN describe their latest release, “Not True,” as the exploring failed relationships and the push and pull that comes with falling deeply for someone. “Not True” is a classic R&B record that finds $VN holding nothing back on the record, as the duo laces vulnerable lyrics and melodies over a soulful instrumental produced by close friend and collaborator Jahmal Gittens, who boasts production credits for top tier artists such as Ramriddlz and Derin Falana among others.
About the song, group member SAGS states, “I’m proud of this one, we laid it all out in the open and you really get a sense of intimacy through the vocal performances. We wanted listeners to feel the words that we’re singing. Jahmal really set the mood with the production leaving nyXsun and I the space to finesse the songwriting and engineering.”
