Critically acclaimed Canadian DJ duo, A Tribe Called Red, drop their newest single, The OG, featuring frequent collaborators, Black Bear – a group of Pow Wow singers and drum group hailing from Manawan, Quebec, who appeared on earlier hit tracks, Stadium Pow Wow, R.E.D. and Indian City. The OG is a celebration of Cree Lawmaker, Romeo Saganash’s, speech inside the House of Commons last September, surrounding the Trans Mountain Pipeline and Indigenous rights. Tribe was inspired by his words and the track opens with a line of Saganash’s speech, accompanied by a drum line, setting the tone for the remainder of the song. Listen to The OG here.
“It would be impossible to overstate the impact that Romeo Saganash’s words had on the Indigenous world and on us personally. We feel that the stand he took that day in parliament needs to be remembered, memorialized and commemorated. This is a celebration of that moment. Romeo, the Halluci Nation salutes you,” Tribe’s Bear Witness explains.
Tribe’s latest album, We Are The Halluci Nation, was released in 2016 to world-wide critical acclaim. The record earned the group a spot on the 2016 Polaris Music Prize Short List, a JUNO win at the 2017 Awards for Producer of the Year, and a 2018 JUNO Award for Group of the Year. We Are The Halluci Nation is a visionary blend of electronic and dance music that’s forward-thinking with a deep sense of heritage and cultural identity.
